The Hello Kitty Dress

Dress of bright pink cotton with a print of Hello Kitty rocking out on guitar (yay!), lined in cotton, with super bright pink lace trim, made with a combination of machine and hand sewing. Pattern based on the c. 1770-85 dress from Patterns of Fashion 1. Petticoat of white striped linen, pattern of my own invention. Gorgeous embroidered pocket and mini bouquet of flowers made by the Sarah. Paper flowers for the bouquet courtesy of Taylor. Pink silk ribbon worn at the neck.
Dress Diary
I've been a Hello Kitty fan since I was a wee thing, and after Sarah embroidered me an amazing pocket with Hello Kitty on it, the idea was born that I should have a dress to go with it! And so I set out looking to make the ultimate "Jenni" dress! It would have to be totally pink, of course, and 18th century in style, and finding this fabric which also incorporates music was just the icing on the cake! Since I wasn't starting out with a completely historically accurate fabric (LOL!) I diverted from my tradition of hand-sewing everything for this era, and used a machine, so that I could get the bulk of this dress (everything save lining and a few finishing touches) done in a day. . .
I don't think I've ever been as happy with the fit of any costume I've ever made, and on top of it, I think this is the most fun I've ever had wearing a costume! It's totally my favorite dress now. If only I could wear it every day! ;)
